The 30 mile ride into Blacksburg was pretty typical although I was sore from running this weekend (which I don't do as much now that I have been biking). It was pretty cool to ride on the Trans-Am trail this morning as I passed some bikers who looked like they were riding for the long haul (cross country!). They were decked out in bright yellow gear and had tall flags on the back of their bikes so cars would see them - they looked to be a family with someone riding a touring bike, two people riding a tandem bike, and the father riding a recumbent bike. Needless to say I gave them a wave and then thought about the fact that I will be in their shoes about two weeks from now!!

I arrived in Blacksburg to a delightful rain storm and was thoroughly soaked when I got to work. It was good practice though because I hadn't ridden my bike with the geared attached in the rain yet - not to worry, everything stayed dry, even my lunch (which I finished most of prior to noon).
After doing a few of the night-morning biking trips with a 12 hour turn around between each 30 mile ride, it was time to up the stakes today and ride into work and then home to have a complete 60 mile day. This length ride will be right around our daily average for the trip and it is good that I have at least one training ride at that distance.
The commute home went well (and dry) and I enjoyed a chocolate pretzel Kashi bar halfway home. This bar reminded me of one of my favorite desserts - ice cream with pretzels and chocolate syrup on top...don't bash the pretzels until you have tried it!
Near our house there is one last hill to climb before I feel that I am home and needless to say by the time I got there today my legs were burning and I was moving pretty slow! I got home and enjoyed a glass of chocolate milk and a delicious salmon dinner with green beans and pasta that Salli made - thanks!
