Our biker clan awoke to a long day ahead and everyone tried to get out of camp as early as possible. In our sights was the longest day yet - 93 miles! This was definitely my longest ride ever, but it was a lot of fun. Since we are out of the Appalachian mountains, the hill climbing has become much more managable as we can roll down the downhills and crank a few turns to get up the uphills. This makes for covering milage pretty fast. The terrain today started changing towards farmland and rolling fields of different crops.
The gang I rode with this morning cranked out 45 miles before noon and we stopped for a delicious second breafast/early lunch at a small town diner. Post noon-time, the temperature escalated quickly! Some say that the temperature was between 95 and 100 degrees F in the later part of the afternoon.
Our last stop of the day was at the Lincoln Homestead State Park which turned out to be pretty cool with replications of older buildings all around.
Following in the footsteps of yesterday's blog, Don rejoined our group this evening and loaded our campsite with free beer and some Dominoes pizza for dinner as we arrived!

An important fact of the trip to highlight is that all things can be measured in terms of chocolate milk. For example, a small hill might be rated as 1-2 chocolate milks while Afton Mountain or Hayter's Gap might range from 5-8 chocolate milks. Typically, chocolate milk used in this measurement system is whole milk with delicious tasting sugar/chocolate additives.
On another note, my blister is officially deflated and some of the skin has peeled off. The skin underneath is basically healed and it doesn't even hurt to shower or wash it with soap! Looks like leaving the bubble intact was a great idea and will definitely help me over the long run on this trip!
Unfortunate about not staking down your tent bro! Guess that will be something you probably do from now on...on another note-glad to hear you are measuring life in chocolate milks! Salli would be so proud :) The puppies are doing well and are crazy as ever! Miss you!

ReplyDeleteI'd like to accept another point on behalf of Leanna for the sammies at the Farmer's Market and the beers for the cookout- clearly I have no problem with taking credit for another's kindness! Glad you guys are going well and finding ways to handle the heat. Nice job keeping up the blogs as well- those of us in the cubicle universe appreciate it.
