Our ride today was short! We arrived at our destination around noon after leaving the campsite around 8 am. We are still riding through Kentucky, but we are out of coal truck and crazy dog country. We are definitely in horse country Kentucky where everyone is a die hard University of Kentucky fan and frowns upon those from Louisville.

In this flat country our rides are becoming much faster and we are getting better at riding in pelotons to increase our speed. At one point today we were cruising uphill on a low grade road around 23 mph! The high speed for the group heading downhill is around 49.7 mph to date. There are a lot of expectations that folks will top out over 50 mph when we are coming down the Rocky Mountains.
Another significant event today was the fact that we hit our first public pool in the "Midwest." These pools become extremely popular when you hit the actual Midwest states like Kansas, Missouri, etc., but it was a lot of fun to hit the pool today in KY after scorching temperatures. I think the group will definitely start trending towards earlier departure times as the temperature continues to increase over the summer.

The story of the last few days at night has been moisture or rain making all of our sleeping gear wet in the mornings. Following our torrential down pour the other night, we had a flash rain this afternoon that people took advantage of for their almost daily shower on this trip:
(Stephen French showering)Today we rode past Abraham Lincoln's birth place. It is interesting that he is so connected with the state of Illinois, but his family and birthplace were located in KY. You learn something new everyday!
