Our trip started at a pretty scenic KOA campground near Cotopaxi, CO where there was a beautiful sunset and river running by our site. Many of the group got in pretty late after a long ride, but everyone was OK and we all managed to sleep in a little. Below is my campsite - I snagged the only riverside property on our site.

Our trip traversed through some extremely scenic countryside of CO where fly fishing was the norm (along with 1 million cars carrying kayaks and mountain bikes) rather than golf (no offense!). We arrived in the extremely scenic and outrageously cool town of Salida, CO where I would love to one day live and somehow manage to mountain bike/hike/kayak/fly fish almost everyday. We managed our ride to enter Salida around the time of the second World Cup semi-final between Germany and Spain. After checking out the most outrageous bike shop I have been to (Absolute Bikes) we took a lunch break at the BoatHouse Cantina where the entire restaurant was either watching the game or watching the kayaks mess around in the whitewater directly out the restaurants open air windows.

We hit the road a little late in the afternoon with about 4000 ft of elevation to climb to our campsite. This climbing was much different than the Appalachian Mountains as the grade was a little less steep, but the road was many more miles in length! All in all it was a super fine climb to our elevated campsite (above 10,000 feet) where we had a few cold beers, tacos courtesy of Don's Diner, and a mini dance party in the trailer when a short rain storm hit!
