Today we crossed into the final state of California, the end is near :) and :( - but seriously, how to describe the Sierra Nevada mountains - today's ride was definitely one of the best in terms of scenery on the trip to date. That is saying a lot - I would definitely rank it in the top 5! We started the morning from our Motel 6 and headed towards the mountain for most of the morning. Mid-morning we started ascending the mountain and boy the did beauty of the scenery increase as we got up in elevation. All in all we headed towards roughly 8,300 ft elevation to camp for the night in a sweet campground. The pictures from today's ride can probably explain the scenery better than I can.
For lunch we stopped at a delicious resort called Sorensen's Resort and downed a sandwich while dreaming of staying at the B&B to take advantage of the good, accommodations, and in the winter, the CC skiing and fireplaces. After that, we headed to the summit of Carson Pass to hang out and catch the view (below) - definitely one of the better summit views of the trip. Following that, we traveled the 6-7 miles down to the delicious Kirkwood Inn (diner/pub) for some nice Black Butte Porter and $2 amazing delicious tacos. The food was so good that my patched tube (rear wheel) decided to give me a hard time and slow down the process by failing (one Super Patch from UT to CA - not bad).
Any who, the evening continued with a campfire, some dessert pancakes served up by Don (pancakes with chocolate chips), and jams running on the iPod ranging from 80's tunes, a little 90's mix, and finally some blues to top it all off.
